JAGUARS FALL AT HORIZON LEAGUE LEADER WRIGHT STATE, 85-73

Junior Kyler D'Augustino finishes with a team-high 20 points in the loss

FAIRBORN, Ohio - The IU Indianapolis men's basketball team added to a season filled with frustration as the Jaguars fell on the road at Horizon League leader Wright State inside the Nutter Center on Wednesday night (Feb. 19), 85-73. Junior Kyler D'Augustino paced the Jaguars with 20 points and freshman Maguire Mitchell contributed on 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

"I'm proud of our guys for how hard they continue to scrap and claw and fight," head coach Ben Howlett said. "Shots weren't falling and we continued to fight.

"(Wright State) is a really good, disciplined team and we were right there with them. They made the plays down the stretch and we didn't and that's the difference between winning and losing."

TJ Burch led Wright State (18-10, 13-4 HL) with 23 points and Michael Imariagbe finished with 19 points. The Raiders shot 53 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the foul line while outrebounding the Jaguars by a substantial 35-22 margin. The Raiders closed with a 50-42 margin in points in the paint.

The game was tied at 57 all with 11:24 remaining when Micah Davis splashed a three, but WSU responded with eight straight points and never relinquished the advantage. D'Augustino stopped a five-minute scoreless stretch to snap the 8-0 run, igniting a personal 6-0 run of his own, but Imariagbe countered with a three-point play to regain a two-possession advantage.

Woodward cut the lead back to 70-65 with 4:05 remaining, but the Jaguars struggled to get stops down the stretch and the Raiders made 13-of-14 foul shots in the final three-plus minutes to extend the final advantage.

Woodward closed with 12 points, five assists and four rebounds and both Kameron Tinsley and Davis added nine points off the bench. Jaxon Edwards finished with eight points and a team-high three steals as the Jaguars collected 11 steals and forced 15 WSU turnovers.

The Jaguars were able to withstand a rough shooting opening half, uncharacteristically working their way to the free throw line late in the stanza. After trailing by as many as 10 late in the half, the Jaguars outscored the Raiders 9-3 in the closing 2:30, including a circus style Mitchell three-point play, to cut the lead back to 40-36 by intermission. The Jags went 0-of-10 from three in the first half while Wright State's attempts came primarily at or near the rim. The taller Raiders played over top of the Jaguars, shooting 52 percent in the first half while attempting just four treys, making three.

IU Indy finished the game at 49 percent overall, but just 4-of-20 (20 percent) from three.

The Jaguars will return home to host a pair of contests in the final week of the regular season, beginning with a matchup with Oakland University on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at 6:30 p.m. inside the Jungle.
