TROY, Ala. – The IU Indy softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex, falling to Central Arkansas, 11-1 in five innings, before an 8-0 loss to host Troy in six innings. With play being canceled due to rain, tomorrow, Sunday, February 15 the Jags close out the weekend with a 0-4 trip bringing their season record to 3-6.
Central Arkansas used a seven-run third inning to pull away and secure an 11-1 victory in the opener. The Bears collected 11 hits and scored in four of the five innings, including a seven-run third to break the game open.
IU Indy was limited to three hits in the contest.
Molly Kable,
Callie Dickerson and
Sonia Ruchala each recorded a hit for the Jaguars. The lone run came in the fourth inning, as the Jags broke up the shutout attempt with
Paige McPhearson stealing home.
Lily Roush took the loss in the circle, while
Kaylen Garland and
Clara Phariss also saw action in relief.
In the afternoon matchup, Troy plated two runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back, earning an 8-0 win in six innings
The Trojans tallied 10 hits, highlighted by two home runs from Sophia Jenkins, who finished with three hits and three RBI. Troy added three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the run-rule victory.
IU Indy was held to just two hits in the game.
Karley Kavanaugh and
Mae Munson each recorded a hit for the Jaguars, who were also limited to just one walk.
Reagan Bauer started in the circle and was charged with the loss, with
Callie Dickerson providing three innings of relief work.
Tomorrow's game against Radford has been canceled due to rain. With the cancellation the Jags will next travel to Murray, Kentucky to face Murray State, South Dakota State and North Dakota for a four-game weekend.
