INDIANAPOLIS - Three members of the IU Indianapolis women's track and field squad earned new personal bests on Friday (Feb. 13) as the Jaguars returned to action at the Heartland Invitational inside Fall Creek Pavilion.
Freshman
AnnMarie Gibson set a new personal best in the 3,000m event and fellow rookie
Payton Gross put up a new personal record in the high jump. Redshirt freshman
Skylar Ferry closed out the evening with a new PR in the 400m event.
The day began with
Skyler Sichting clocking a time of 9.54 seconds in the prelims of the 60m hurdles. Later, freshman
Sarah Madi-Bouabre registered a time of 7.74 seconds in the prelims of the 60m dash, finishing second in the initial heat of the day.
In the high jump, junior
Journey Howard was the team's top performer with a best mark of 1.60m (5' 3'') while Gross had a best jump of 1.56m (5' 1.25''), eclipsing her prior best by more than two inches. Freshman
Elisa Algozine had a best mark of 1.48m (4' 10.25'').
Gibson did her work in the open 3K, crossing at 11:06.10 to take nine seconds off her previous best effort. In the faster section of the 3K, senior
Julie Smith ran a time of 10:19.69, missing a new personal best by two seconds.
The day concluded with a bevy of Jaguars competing in the 400m event. Sophomore
Jahzara McAlister continued to impress with a time of 58.16, missing her personal best mark by five-hundredths of a second. Ferry registered a personal best time of 1:00.19 and
Sophia Palmer clocked a time of 1:00.99. Both Howard and
Jada-Marie Davis returned on heavy legs after the high jump with the former finishing at 1:03.22 and the latter crossing at 1:06.53.
The Jaguars will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 14), beginning with the mile at 11:35 a.m.
