CLEVELAND - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team will hit the road on Saturday (Oct. 3) to face Cleveland State (3-3-3, 1-1-2 HL) at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field. Saturday's contest will be aired on ESPN+.
The Jaguars (3-5-1, 0-4 HL) enter play in dire need of a Horizon League result, having dropped four straight to start league play. Head coach
Keegan Boom's team fell on the road at Oakland last Saturday by a 1-0 score, yielding the game's lone score in the 84th minute. That came on the heels of an improbable 3-3 draw with Western Illinois when the Jaguars scored the equalizer with one second remaining.
Christian Nielsen capped the wild affair with a toe poke as the final seconds ticked away after the Jaguars had allowed an equalizer in the 78th minute and a go-ahead score in the 88th minute.
Senior
Jose Antonio Herrera leads the squad with four goals and rookie
Santiago Sanchez has a team-high two assists. Fellow freshman
Thomas Weinrich has made an immediate impact on the attack with a pair of goals in just six games (four starts). In goal, another freshman,
Peter Field, has a 1.71 goals against average and 43 saves in his nine appearances, including three shutouts.
Senior
Jago Thompson-Roberts leads the field players in minutes played, having logged 793 of the team's 810 minutes in the defensive third.
QUOTABLE
"It's a disappointing result after the boys fought hard for 90 minutes. The desire is there and we are working incredibly hard. The margins in the Horizon League are small so we have to keep our chins up, bounce back, and get all the little things right going into the next game," Boom said following the 1-0 defeat at Oakland.
