INDIANAPOLIS - Six members of the IU Indianapolis women's track and field team collected new personal bests as the Jaguars wrapped up the two-day Crossroads of America Invitational inside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion on Saturday (Jan. 24). Sophomore
Ella Colclesser paced the team's entries in the mile while sophomore
Jahzara McAlister was the top performer in the 400m event.
Colclesser had a strong run in her mile, spinning a time of 5:12.58 to take six seconds off her prior best. Behind her, freshmen
Kaylynn Bedel and
Emily Bruns ran their first collegiate miles, running 5:22.25 and 5:27.81, respectively.
"Today was just about getting out and competing again, since it's still super early in the season," Colclesser said. "I wasn't looking for anything crazy, just trying to put up a good number and run it smart to build my confidence for other events that I'm more focused on.
"I definitely feel like I executed that today. I am super excited to see how the rest of indoor and outdoor goes for the entire team."
McAlister clocked a time of 58.11 in the 400m to shave nearly two seconds off her prior best while
Skylar Ferry followed suit with a new personal record time of 1:00.22. Freshman
Sophia Palmer posted a time of 1:00.25 and senior
Reese McCuan finished her race at 1:02.88.
Earlier in the day, senior
Skyler Sichting just missed a new personal best in the shot put with a best mark of 8.92m (29' 3.25'') on her first attempt of the day.
The Jaguars closed the day with an entry in the 4x400 relay as
Jada-Marie Davis,
Journey Howard,
Jenna Twedt and McCuan recorded a time of 4:13.57.
The Jaguars are slated to compete next weekend at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis and at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.
