BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Behind a strong performance from junior Titus Boswell, the IU Indianapolis men's golf team opened play at the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday (Sept. 6) at Bryan Park Golf Club. The Jaguars posted a team score of 300 (+12) to sit in 12th place after the opening round of the 54-hole event. Play was adjusted to a single round on Saturday, followed by two rounds to be played on Sunday (Sept. 7) due to inclement weather.
Boswell turned in a steady round of 70 (-2), carding four birdies to finish tied for sixth overall among the 87-player field on Saturday. After opening with three straight pars, Boswell got to 2-under with birdies on No. 1 and No. 3 and stayed there for much of the day. He later made birdie on the longest par-5 on the course, the 543-yard No. 11, to get back to 2-under on the heels of a bogey two holes prior.
"The goal of today was to get off to a good start this season," Boswell said. "The game felt really good and I was able to hit some high quality shots and have some putts fall. It's nice to see that my game is in a solid place right now.
"I'm excited to get back out there and fight tomorrow to try and move up the leaderboard."
Junior Brady Schier and senior Noah Kirsch both posted rounds of 76 and redshirt freshman Keaton Parmley made his collegiate debut with a 78, including four birdies. Senior Preston Broce rounded out the lineup with a round of 82 in his IU Indy debut and true freshman Jack Scudder shot 75 while playing as an individual.
Nationally-ranked Wake Forest leads the field after an opening round, 9-under 279, paced by Tom Haberer's 66. Wofford (281, -7) and William & Mary (284, -4) round out the top three.
Individually, Wofford's Ben Jordan holds the outright lead after a blistering, 7-under 65 on Saturday.
The Jaguars will return to action Sunday morning for the second and third rounds, looking to climb the leaderboard in the 54-hole event.
