INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy volleyball team began the 2025 season last weekend with a three-match sweep at the Buc Dome Invitational. The Jags now travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Xavier Tournament this weekend, Sept. 4-6.
The Jags started the season off strong with a 3-0 sweep against Charleston Southern, The Citadel and Loyola Maryland. Junior setter
Grace Purichia was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after averaging 11.44 assists and 2.33 digs per set in the three wins. Freshman
Jillian Tippmann was named the tournament MVP after totaling double digit kills each match, averaging 4.00 kills/set.
Morgan Ostrowski was also named to the tournament team after hitting .560 with 30 kills in the three matches combined.
IU Indy will kick off the tournament, facing host Xavier on Thursday, Sept. 4. Xavier also enters the weekend with a 3-0 record with wins over Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay and Murray State. Margo Kemp was named the BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Week after leading the league with 1.82 blocks per set. Anna Taylor was named the MVP of the Stacheville Challenge as she recorded 2.78 kills and 1.44 blocks per set while hitting .440 with no errors in the final two matches.
The Jags and Musketeers are set for a 6:00 PM first serve on Xavier+.
IU Indy will then face Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 5 with first serve set for 3:00 PM. Eastern Kentucky finished 2-1 last weekend at the College of Charleston Classic with wins over Mercer and Charleston and a five-set loss to App State. Senior Carson Ledford was named to the Preseason All-ASUN Team. The middle blocker averaged 2.09 kills and 0.91 blocks per set last season.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday with the Jags taking on the Miami (OH) RedHawks at 4:30 PM. Miami also went 3-0 in their opening weekend at the Bellarmine Classic, winning all three matches in sweep fashion. The RedHawks returned all four of its 2024 leaders in kills, assists, digs and blocks.
