INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy volleyball team is set to play three matches in four days, starting with a home match against Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Jags will then play Butler at the Fishers Event Center on Friday (Sept. 19) and Purdue in West Lafayette on Sunday (Sept. 21).
The Jags enter the weekend with a 4-5 record. Freshman
Jillian Tippmann leads the attack with 114 kills on the season, averaging 3.68 per set.
Grace Purichia adds 319 total assists for the year, averaging 9.67 per set while
Laura Roeder leads the defense with 144 digs, averaging 4.36 per set.
Eastern Michigan and IU Indy are meeting for the third consecutive season and seventh time overall. The Eagles hold a 4-2 record in the series over the Jags. Eastern is off to its first 7-3 start since the 2018 season, the last time it won a MAC Tournament Championship.
Following Thursday game in the Jungle, the Jags will then make the trip to the Fishers Event Center to play Butler on Friday night at 7:00 PM. The Bulldogs currently sit at 5-5 on the season and are 3-1 in home matches, with their lone loss coming against No. 14 Purdue. Alaleh Tolliver leads Butler in total kills with 152 and is second in the conference in kills per set with 4.22.
IU Indy pulled out the four-set victory against Butler in the Jungle a season ago during the annual Spirit Day.
Kate White notched the final point for the Jags with a kill to take back Indianapolis.
After Friday, the Jags take a brief break on Saturday before traveling to West Lafayette to face No. 14 ranked Purdue. Purdue currently sits at 7-1 with their only loss coming from No. 23 Georgia Tech in four sets. Sophomore Ryan McAleer was selected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Boilermakers to a 3-0 week, averaging 4.10 digs per set with a total of 41 digs over the 10 sets of action.
