INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indy Jaguars dropped their second match of the Hampton Inn Invite on Friday night, falling 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-17) to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The Jaguars (4-4) pushed the Bulldogs to the limit in the second set, forcing extra points before narrowly dropping it 28-26. IU Indy totaled 32 kills in the match, highlighted by a balanced offensive effort.
Jillian Tippmann led the Jaguars with an efficient 11 kills on .500 hitting, while
Ninah Miranda added eight kills, nine digs, and an ace for an all-around performance.
Morgan Ostrowski chipped in five kills and three blocks while
Grace Purichia paced the offense with 22 assists and 13 digs.
Defensively, IU Indy tallied 41 digs and out-blocked Gonzaga at the net, led by contributions from Ostrowski,
Chloe Macias, and
Amanda Stephens.
Despite the Jaguars' resilience, Gonzaga's strong attacking (.221 hitting percentage) and timely serving proved decisive. Sjakkie Donkers led all players with 15 kills for the Bulldogs, while Fallon Thompson added nine.
The loss evens IU Indy's record to 4-4 on the season. The Jaguars will close out the Hampton Inn Invitational against Northern Illinois tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
