9/11/2025 11:30:00 AM

INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team will kick off Horizon League play on Saturday (Sept. 13) when the Jaguars host Wright State inside Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 5:00 p.m. The Jaguars came up short earlier this week against Northern Illinois in a 2-1 loss in their home opener. The Jaguars are 2-2-2 on the season, and this will be their second home game. Saturday's match will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw (pxp) calls the action.

Junior Jose Antonio Herrera was able to find the back of the net in the 34th minute for his first goal of the season, and was assisted by senior Youri Keijser for his second helper of the season. Northern Illinois had most of the advantage against the Jaguars. The Huskies outshot the Jaguars 22-8 and in corner kicks 5-0. Senior Cameron Maung-Maung and sophomore Declan Finnegan split time in net with Maung-Maung starting the game and finishing with three saves. Finnegan played the final 45 without yielding a score and collecting four saves.

Keijser leads the team with six points (2 goals, 2 assists) and sophomore defender Stan Klaver has two goals. Sophomore midfielder Bali Esquivel leads the team with three assists. Senior defender Brady Horn leads the team in minutes played with 540 through six games while Maung-Maung leads the team in saves with 23 and a .742 save percentage and 1.53 goals against average. Finnegan has made two appearances as a reserve with a 1.29 GAA and four stops.

QUOTABLE
"We lose the game - that sucks, but you can't control wins and losses. You can't control the scoreboard. All you can control is how we play, how we react to mistakes, because I think both of their goals did come from our mistakes. I think the response from our guys in the second half was good." head coach Sid van Druenen said.

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE
Wright State is currently 0-4-1 on the season with the lone result having been a 2-2 draw at Loyola-Chicago. Henry Hutchinson leads the team with two goals and four points while Brian Burkett and Edwin Espinal-Elvir each have one assist. The Raiders have been outscored 13-3 on the year and outshot by six shots per contest. In goal, Alessandro Malterer has made four starts with a 2.50 GAA and .655 save percentage with 19 saves.
