JAGUARS EARN ROAD RESULT AT NOTRE DAME IN 0-0 DRAW

Senior goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung registers five saves in the shutout

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team went on the road and came home with a result as the Jaguars played Notre Dame to a 0-0 draw on Sunday night (Aug. 24). Senior goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung made five saves in keeping the Fighting Irish off the scoreboard and the defensive trio of Brady Horn, Stan Klaver and Jago Thompson-Roberts continued to show well in the early stages of the season.

"Definitely a great result to get on the road against an ACC team, especially a shutout," Horn said. "The whole team worked for it so hopefully we can ride this momentum into another big game against Louisville."

Notre Dame (0-0-2) finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots and 10-1 margin in corner kicks, but couldn't solve the veteran-laden IU Indy defense.

Offensively, the Jaguars showed more spunk in the first half, including getting attempts on frame from Jose Antonio Herrera in the 32nd minute and from Tyson Aschliman in the 34th minute. Sophomore Christian Nielsen tested UND keeper Blake Kelly in the 42nd minute, to no avail.

The Jags were on their heels for much of the second half, attempting just one shot - a Bali Esquival restart in the 68th minute - while defending a more spry Notre Dame attack.

"It was a game of two halves, really," head coach Sid van Druenen said. "I thought we played our best 45 minutes of the season in the first half. Our work rate was high, execution of the game plan was perfect and we created two big goal scoring chances and have had the lead at halftime.

"The second half we defended for long spells and had to dig deep to keep the clean sheet. I'm very proud that we did and am already looking forward to our next game with this group!"

Wyatt Borso fired a game-high four shots while Jack Flanagan attempted three off the Notre Dame bench.

The draw marked the first result against Notre Dame since 2000 when the two sides played to a 0-0 double overtime tie in Indianapolis.

IU Indy will continue its stretch of five straight road games to open the season on Friday (Aug. 29) when it treks south to face Louisville on ESPN+.
