LAFFOON FINISHES FOURTH IN HEPTATHLON, HOARD PLACES TENTH

Both registered new personal bests in the multis

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Both Paige Laffoon and Morgan Hoard finished off impressive efforts in the heptathlon at Indiana State's Gibson Invitational on Friday (Apr. 18) with the former placing fourth of 32 athletes and the latter placing tenth. Both shattered the previous school record with wind aided efforts, keeping them from being listed in the program's record book. 

The day started with wind aided, personal best marks for both in the long jump. Laffoon posted a best mark of 5.68m (18' 7.75'') and Hoard jumped 5.37m (17' 7.5''). In the javelin, Laffoon had a best throw of 31.64m (103-9) and Hoard threw 29.89 (98-0) to add to their point totals. 

Laffoon closed the event with a time of 2:34.20 in the 800m run while Hoard clocked a personal best time of 2:39.49, breaking her prior best by three seconds. Laffoon finished with 4,865 points to top her own school record by more than 500 points. Meanwhile, Hoard also broke the previous school record with 4,437 points, exceeding her prior best by more than 300 points. 

In Winston-Salem, two more Jaguars competed to round out the Wake Forest Invitational. Grace Bragg ran a 1,500m time of 4:50.54 and Wini Barnett followed with an 800m time of 2:19.61 to close out the two-day meet. 

The Jaguars will round out ISU's Gibson Invitational on Saturday with a group of athletes competing in Terre Haute.
