INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's tennis team faced off against Horizon League rival Cleveland State on Saturday, ultimately falling 7-0.
In doubles play, the Jaguars' top duo of
Nate Day and
Konner Gunwall were locked in a 5-5 battle with CSU's top pair when the match was left unfinished. The Vikings claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
Despite the scoreline, the Jaguars fought throughout the day, pushing three singles matches to deciding sets. Senior
Kamil Kozerski took Cleveland State's Lincoln Battle to three sets at No. 1 singles before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, junior
Eli Mercer came out strong, taking the first set 6-3 but couldn't hold on as he fell in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 10-6. Similarly,
Pumiphat Sukkho pushed his match at No. 5 singles to a third set before dropping 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Devin Boyer.
With the loss, IU Indianapolis drops to 8-12 on the season. The Jaguars will look to regroup as they host Youngstown State for senior day tomorrow, Sunday, April 13. First serve is set for 3:00 PM.
