DAYTON, Ohio – The IU Indy women's tennis team fought hard but ultimately fell to Dayton, 5-2, in a competitive road match on Friday.
In doubles play, Dayton claimed the early advantage, winning two of three matches to secure the doubles point. IU Indy's duo of
Grace Lampman and
Chloe Bailey were leading their match at No. 2 doubles (5-4) before it was left unfinished.
Despite strong performances in singles play from
Grace Lampman and
Hanan Awale, the Jaguars were unable to overcome the Flyers' depth. Lampman secured a three-set victory at No. 5 singles, outlasting Grace Murphy 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Awale delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 singles, defeating Jordan Mitchell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Jaguars pushed several matches to three sets, including a battle at No. 1 singles, where
Emma Dell rallied in the second set but fell to Neena Katauskas, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.
Chloe Bailey also had a tightly contested match at No. 2 but was edged out by Laura Greb, 7-6, 6-3.
With the loss, IU Indianapolis moves to 1-5 on the season. The Jaguars will next play Rider on March 17.
