CLEVELAND, OHIOÂ - The IU Indy softball team fell in the final game of the three-game series against Cleveland State on the road, moving their conference record to an even 3-3.
The third and final game saw the Jags get run ruled in a 11-1 loss in just five innings.
Clara Phariss got the start for the Jags in the final game of the series. Phariss held the Vikings to a scoreless first inning, before Cleveland State went on a run in the second inning forcing IU Indy to go to the bullpen. Callie Dickerson came in to relieve Phariss but after giving up four runs, the Jags turned to Alexa Holman. The damage was already done as the Vikings closed out the inning with a 10-0 lead.
The Vikings extended their lead in the third inning with an additional run off a single to center field. IU Indy earned their only run of the game in the fourth inning after a solo home run from Kennedy Cowan. Morgan Gilbert and Molly Kable led the way for the Jags in hits with both collecting two each. Cowan, Holman, and Paige McPhearson each had a hit giving IU Indy a total of seven hits on the day. Clara Phariss (2-6) took the loss, tossing 1.1 innings.
IU Indy moves to 9-18 overall and 3-3 in conference play, moving them to fifth in the Horizon League standings. The Jags will return home to take on Robert Morris in a three-game series beginning Friday, March 28. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
