INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy men's tennis team defeated Lipscomb in a close battle, 4-3. Several Jaguars stepped up, including freshman
Vincent Nauta collecting his first singles point of the 2025 season.
IU Indy opened the match with the doubles point, taking the early 1-0 lead.
Kamil Kozerski and
Noah Viste collected the No. 2 doubles win, 6-3 while
Steven Paz and
Will Thurin helped seal the point in the No. 3 spot, 6-3.
Nate Day and
Konner Gunwall were winning in the No. 1 spot, 5-4 before the match went unfinished.
After earning the doubles point, the Jags played a tight match in singles play. They earned three of the six points to secure the match victory. Due to the normal IU Indy singles lineup shifting, several Jags had to step into bigger roles.
Eli Mercer earned the No. 3 singles win in two sets, 6-4, 6-3 while
Will Thurin earned a huge three-set victory in the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Freshman Nauta earned his first singles win of the spring season in the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 7-6.
Kozerski battled in the No. 1 singles match, ultimately falling in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. Paz fell in the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 7-5 and
Pumiphat Sukkho rounded out the lineup in the No. 4 spot, falling, 6-2, 6-3.
The Jaguars have now won back-to-back matches, improving to 4-3 on the season. They will next travel to Marquette to face the Golden Eagle son Friday, February 14 at 12:00 PM.
