MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The IU Indy men's tennis team collected the doubles point but couldn't seal the victory in singles play as they fell to the Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon, 5-2.
Steven Paz recorded the sole singles point for the Jags.
To start the match off the Jags collected the doubles point, earning a 1-0 lead.
Kamil Kozerski and
Noah Viste took the No. 1 match at 6-2.
Eli Mercer and
Konner Gunwall fell in the No. 2 spot to tie the doubles competition at one match each. The Jags then sealed the point in the No. 3 doubles match with
Will Thurin and Paz earning the 6-4 win.
After taking a 1-0 lead, the Jags fell in five of the six singles matches. Paz took the sole singles point for IU Indy in the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-2.
Kozerski dropped the No. 1 match at 7-5, 6-3 while Viste fell in the No. 2 match, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Mercer fell in the No. 4 match at 7-6, 6-0 and Thurin lost in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 7-6. Freshman
Vincent Nauta rounded out the lineup in the No. 6 spot where he fell in two sets, 7-5, 6-3.
The Jags are now 4-4 and will next travel to Evanston, Illinois to face Northwestern, tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 15. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
