EVANSTON, Ill. – The IU Indy men's tennis team closed out a tough weekend at Northwestern on Saturday night. The Jags came up scoreless as Northwestern secured a 7-0 victory.
IU Indy fought in doubles play to start the match.
Eli Mercer and
Konner Gunwall secured a No. 3 doubles win at 6-1 to give the Jags an early edge.
Kamil Kozerski and
Noah Viste went back and forth in the No. 1 doubles match but couldn't close out a win, falling, 7-5. The partnership of
Will Thurin and
Steven Paz then fell in the No. 2 spot, 6-4 to drop the doubles point.
After Northwestern took the doubles point, they continued their momentum in singles play, sweeping the six matches.
Kozerski fell in the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-4 while Paz dropped the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-1. Viste fell in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-2 and Mercer lost the No. 4 match, 6-3, 6-0. Gunwall lost in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1 while Thurin rounded out the lineup in the No. 6 spot, falling, 6-3, 6-2.
The Jags will look to bounce back as they return to Indy to host Marian on Friday, February 21. First serve is set for 12:00 PM at West Indy Racquet Club.
