INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy men's tennis team took down crosstown rival, Butler on Friday afternoon, 4-3. The Jags secured the doubles point and three singles points to seal the victory.
The Jags started off hot with the doubles point.
Steven Paz and
Will Thurin dropped the No. 3 doubles match, giving the Bulldogs a slight edge to start, 6-2.
Nate Day and
Konner Gunwall then won the No. 1 doubles match to even the doubles race, 6-3.
Noah Viste and
Kamil Kozerski then secured the doubles point with the No. 2 win, 6-4.
With an early 1-0 lead, the Jags then moved to singles play. Kozerski dropped the No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-2, to even the match at 1-1. Paz quickly helped take the match lead with the No. 2 singles point, 6-2, 6-1.
Pumiphat Sukkho then fell in the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-4. With the match even again at two point each,
Eli Mercer collected the No. 4 singles point, 6-2, 6-3.
With a slight lead at 3-2, Viste clinched the match victory with the No. 3 singles point, 7-5, 6-3. Day closed out the match, falling in the No. 5 spot, 3-6, 6-3. 6-4.
IU Indy secured the 4-3 victory and improved to 6-6 on the season. They will next take a trip to South Carolina to face the College of Charleston and The Citadel on March 8 and March 10.
