JAGUARS CLAIM THREE EVENT WINS AT BLUE-WHITE CLASSIC ON SATURDAY

Jaguars capture wins in the 200m dash, long jump and 60m hurdles in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field team captured three event wins and a slew of personal bests as the Jaguars showed well at the Indiana State Blue-White Classic on Saturday (Feb. 15). Junior Modupe Awosanya earned wins in the 200m dash and long jump and sophomore Paige Laffoon was victorious in the 60m hurdles. 

The Jaguars sent three individuals to the finals of the 60m hurdles with Laffoon notching back-to-back personal bests with a winning time of 8.93 seconds for the win. Freshman Pa'Shence Purnell and sophomore Journey Howard joined her in the finals, running 9.20 and 9.37 in the prelims, respectively. 

Awosanya had a strong day, winning the 200m dash with a time of 25.41 seconds and winning the long jump with a best mark of 5.94m (19' 6''). Laffoon was runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 5.54m (18' 2.25''). Junior Morgan Hoard shattered her own school record in the shotput with a best throw of 11.25m (36' 11''), breaking her previous mark by nearly 18 inches. Howard was the team's top performer in the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5' 1''). 

On the oval, a number of Jaguars set new personal bests, including Ella Colclesser's time of 5:18.43 in the mile, taking three seconds off her prior best. Freshman Julianna Crow ran a 400m time of 1:01.04 to take a full second off her prior best and Grace Bragg spun an 800m time of 2:22.84 to shed six seconds off her previous best. Julynne Spidell ran the 3,000m event in a time of 11:15.07, shaving more than five seconds off her previous best effort. 

The 4x400 relay team of Jahzara McAlister, Purnell, Crow and Awosanya finished third overall with a time of 4:02.03, capping a busy day for the entire bunch. 

Meanwhile in Michigan, the quartet of Julie Smith, Wini Barnett, Aubrey Nowaskie and Ellie Cates spun a distance medley relay time of 12:16.43 for the second-best effort in the Horizon League this indoor season. 

The Jaguars will now turn attention to the upcoming Horizon League Indoor Championships in Fort Wayne on Mar. 1-2.
