MEN'S SOCCER SLIPS UP ON THE ROAD, 2-1

Jaguars yield the game-winner in the game's 77th minute

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team missed an opportunity to collect a road result against the reigning Horizon League champion on Saturday (Oct. 4) as the Jaguars dropped a 2-1 road decision. The host Colonials tallied the game-winner in the 77th minute when Kosi Udeh poked a shot past Cameron Maung-Maung

Junior Jose Antonio Herrera had tallied an equalizer early in the second half on a penalty kick for his second score of the year.

"I thought this game had 1-1 tie written all over it and we end up conceding an unlucky late goal that went against the run of play in my opinion," head coach Sid van Druenen said. "I am happy with the effort of the guys and the performance got better as the game went on. We are looking forward to being home again next weekend after two difficult and long road games."

IU Indy (4-4-3, 1-2-1 HL) saw RMU grab a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Jack Bejarano got a shot past Maung-Maung off an assist from Anass Hadran. Conversely, the IU Indy attack didn't find traction until they went to the bench in the 29th minute. That sparked Herrera and sophomore Stan Klaver provided a presence in the attack in limited minutes before halftime.

The Jags drew even in the 54th minute when a Christian Nielsen pass hit an RMU defender's hand inside the 18-yard box, leading to an easy penalty kick whistle. Herrera buried the attempt, lining a shot in the upper 90 past RMU keeper Josh Lane. The goal invigorated the Jags as they kept the pressure on the RMU defense, largely behind Nathaniel Isom

The Colonials got the winner when Udeh pounced on a Victor Thompson through ball that eluded an IU Indy defender on way to goal. Udeh beat Maung-Maung to the spot and was able to redirect a shot into the empty net for his first tally of the season.

Both sides finished with eight shot attempts with RMU earning a 5-3 advantage in both shots on goal and corner kicks. Herrera had a game-high five shots, putting two on target.

Maung-Maung finished with three stops in goal.

The Jaguars will return home to host Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
