INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy Jaguars men's soccer team battled hard at Carroll Stadium on Saturday evening but came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Purdue Fort Wayne. The Jaguars matched the Mastodons in total shots, 12-10, and generated several quality scoring opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net.
After a scoreless first half highlighted by two key saves from IU Indy goalkeeper
Cameron Maung-Maung, the game's lone goal came early in the second half. Purdue Fort Wayne's Angel Rodriguez scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Ben Hissrich, giving the Mastodons a 1-0 advantage they would hold the rest of the way.
IU Indy continued to push for the equalizer, earning two corner kicks and firing six second-half shots.
Nathaniel Isom and
Christian Nielsen were both active on the attack, combining for five of the team's 12 shots, while
Tyson Aschliman added another quality chance that was turned away by PFW keeper Sep Habibi, who finished with five saves to preserve the shutout.
Defensively,
Noah Kummrow,
Jago Thompson-Roberts, and
Brady Horn anchored a back line that limited Purdue Fort Wayne to just three shots on goal.
IU Indy (4-5-3, 1-3-1 Horizon) will look to bounce back in their next outing on Tuesday, Oct. 14 when they host Bellarmine at 6:00 PM.
