MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The IU Indianapolis Jaguars women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches with a thrilling five-set victory over Robert Morris on Saturday evening at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. The Jaguars battled through a back-and-forth match, taking the win by scores of 25-21, 25-27, 25-23, 24-26, and 15-11.
IU Indy came out strong in the opening set, hitting .281 as a team behind the offensive efforts of
Elle Patterson and
Maia Long. The Jaguars used a late run sparked by a kill from
Morgan Ostrowski and a block from
Grace Purichia to close out the frame, 25-21.
The second set saw a tight contest from start to finish, with both sides trading runs. Despite several key kills from Patterson and
Chloe Macias, Robert Morris edged out the Jaguars 27-25 after fending off two IU Indy set points.
IU Indy responded quickly in the third, with Patterson again leading the charge with six kills in the frame. Strong setting from Purichia and steady defense from libero
Laura Roeder helped the Jaguars regain control, taking the set 25-23 to move within one of the match.
The fourth set mirrored the earlier intensity, featuring multiple lead changes and big defensive stops.
Ninah Miranda and Long combined for several timely kills, but Robert Morris forced a deciding fifth set with a 26-24 finish.
In the winner-take-all fifth, the Jaguars' offense clicked at just the right time. IU Indy hit a blistering .545 in the set, highlighted by Patterson's consistent play and Long's finishing power on the outside. A late block by Ostrowski and Purichia sealed the 15-11 set victory and the match.
Patterson led the Jaguars with 20 kills on .333 hitting, while Long added 17 kills and nine digs. Purichia posted a double-double with 61 assists and 19 digs, and Roeder anchored the defense with 22 digs.
IU Indy improved to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in Horizon League play, maintaining its momentum with a fifth straight win. The Jags will now return home to host Youngstown State in the Jungle next weekend, Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18.
