INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indianapolis women's basketball team earned their second consecutive home Horizon League victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Robert Morris Colonials 56-46 in the Jungle.
Nevaeh Foster and
Katie Davidson each added 13 points while
Faith Stinson collected her first double-double of the season.
In her first game back since injury, Davidson made an immediate impact for the Jaguars, scoring 10 of her 13 points in the opening quarter to help IU Indy take an early 17-11 lead. Davidson's hot shooting gave the Jags a solid cushion as they closed out the first period with a six-point advantage.
After an opening layup from
Alexa Hocevar to start the second quarter, Robert Morris answered with a 6-0 run, pulling within two points at 19-17. However, IU Indy responded with an 8-0 run of their own, pushing the lead to double digits at 27-17. The Colonials managed to cut the lead to 30-24 by halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle with scoring. The Jaguars only managed eight points, while Robert Morris netted 11 to narrow the gap. With Stinson hitting a layup at the buzzer, IU Indy still managed to hold a slim 38-35 advantage going into the final period.
Despite a strong push by Robert Morris in the fourth quarter, where they cut the lead to just one point with seven minutes left to play, IU Indy held on. The Jaguars shot 44.4% from the field in the final period, scoring 18 points to secure the win 56-46.
Davidson finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while Foster also added 13 points, including a 3-for-6 performance from beyond the arc. Stinson contributed her first double-double of the season with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks.
Azyah Newson-Cole and Hocevar each scored six points, with Hocevar also grabbing seven boards.
As a team, IU Indy shot 34.0 percent from the field and struggled at the free throw line, shooting just 54.8 percent. Despite the shooting woes, the Jags' earned the victory.
With the win, IU Indy improves to 2-4 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars will look to build on their momentum as they travel to Oakland on Wednesday, January 8, for a 7:00 PM tip-off against the Golden Grizzlies.
