INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy women's tennis team began their spring season today as they hosted Western Illinois. The Jags fell in the season opener, 7-0.
IU Indy opened the match with doubles play.
Chloe Bailey and
Grace Lampman fell in the number two spot, 6-4 while the duo of
Emma Dell and
Hanan Awale dropped the number three match, 6-2.
Calli Sokolowski and
Elle Kotre were tied 4-4 in the number one spot before Western Illinois claimed the doubles point.
After falling behind early, the Jags were unable to recover in singles play. Bailey dropped the number one singles' match after winning the open set, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Dell fell in the number two spot in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Kotre lost the number three match, 6-4, 7-6.
Sokolowski dropped the number four singles point in a hard fought three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6. Lampman lost in the number five spot, 6-0, 6-3 while Awale rounded out the lineup in the sixth spot. The freshman fell, 6-0, 6-3.
IU Indy will next welcome Eastern Illinois on Friday, January 31.
