INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy swim and dive teams closed out the weekend against the Youngstown State Penguins on Saturday, Jan. 11 with 18 individual first-place finishes.
Emmaleigh Zietlow and
Nathan Rariden led the Jags once again with three individual wins each.
The women's swim team led the day off with a win in the 400 medley relay. The relay team of
Addy Hirsbrunner, Morgan Frausto,
Lillian Brandt and
Luca McGee earned a time of 3:48.39 to take the top spot. The men's team of
Jack Gallob,
Zach Drotar,
Hugo Arteaga and Rariden earned the top time of 3:18.99.
Leading the women's squad was Zietlow with three individual first-place finishes. She took the top spot in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.66 followed by the 100 fly (56.11) and 100 free (51.22). Hirsbrunner and Brandt each earned two wins. Hirsbrunner took first in the 50 back with a time of 26.64 and first in the 100 back at 57.33. Brandt took first in the 50 free at 23.90. She also took first in the 100 IM at 58.11 while Hirsbrunner took second at 1:00.38.
Victoria Surdyka also earned a first place finish with the top time in the 100 breast at 1:04.93 while Frausto took second at 1:05.26.
On the men's side, Rariden earned three top spots. He earned the win in the 200 free (1:39.45), 100 free (45.84) and the 500 free (4:32.62). Arteaga and
Grayson Tidwell each collected two first-place finishes. Arteaga earned the top spot in the 100 fly at 48.76 and the 50 fly with a time of 21.95. Tidwell took first in the 100 back (49.10) and the 100 IM (51.14).
Turner Long, Gallob and
Luca Eckert each recorded an individual win as well. Long took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.84 while Gallob earned the top spot in the 50 back at 23.01. Eckert took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.02.
On the boards,
Adam Schmehl set a personal record in the 3-meter dive.
To close out the meet, the Jags also won both the men's and women's 200 free relay. The women's team of Zietlow, Brandt, McGee and Surdyka took first with a time of 1:36.23. On the men's side, Arteaga, Eckert,
David Niemiec and Will Gorman took first at 1:23.19.
Both the men's and women's swim and dive teams will next be in action on January 18 when they travel to St. Louis to face Washington University.
