IU INDY FALLS IN STRAIGHT SETS TO WRIGHT STATE

The Jags and Raiders will go head-to-head again tomorrow at 3:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy volleyball team welcomed the Wright State Raiders to the Jungle on Friday afternoon. The Raiders defeated the Jags in straight sets, 3-0. They will return to the Jungle tomorrow afternoon for a 3:00 PM first serve.

The Jags kept the opening set close but ultimately fell 25-23. Wright State kicked off the set with three straight kills before IU Indy recorded their own kill when Elle Patterson found the floor. The Raiders held a 15-12 lead at the media timeout, but the Jags went on a 3-1 run to cut the lead to one after the timeout.

Wright State inched their way back to a three-point lead at 20-17 before the Jags took three straight points to tie the set at 20-20. Kills from Carly Doros and Maia Long helped IU Indy to cut the lead and force a Raiders timeout. The Jags scored three more points, two of them coming from Maia Long kills, before Wright State sealed the set at 25-23.

Both teams took a total of 22 attack attempts in set two, but the Raiders held a slight edge with a hitting percentage of .545 compared to the Jags' .455. With the edge, Wright State extended their match lead with a 25-17 set two victory.

The Jags fell behind early in the third set at 8-3 but after a timeout, IU Indy took five straight to tie the set at 8-8. Kills from Elle Patterson and Kate White led the way. Wright State slowly pulled away, setting up match point at 24-20. IU Indy called a timeout to regroup and hopefully keep the match alive. After the timeout, back-to-back kills from Long and Doros kept the Jags in the match at 24-22. The Raiders quickly called a timeout and closed out the match after the break at 25-22.

Patterson led the Jaguar attack with 12 kills while Long followed with 11. Doros added seven kills and Ostrowski collected six. Patterson also led the defense with seven digs while Grace Purichia totaled 35 assists and two service aces.

The Raiders and Jaguars return to the Jungle for a 3:00 PM first serve tomorrow, Saturday, September 28.
