WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior
Morgan Ostrowski totaled a career-high 15 kills to lead the Jags to a 3-1 victory over Rider to close out the DC Showdown on Saturday. IU Indy closes out the invite with a 1-2 record.
Despite dropping a tight first set, the Jags took the next three to earn the match win. The Jags fell behind early in the first set but went on a late five point run to cut the lead to 19-18, thanks to a kill and ace from
Briana Brown as well as attack errors from the Broncos. After trading points back-and-forth, the Jags tied the set at 24-24 with a kill from Ostrowski. Despite a strong effort from the Jags, the Broncos took the opening set 26-24.
After dropping the first set, IU Indy opened the second set with a 5-1 run to take a strong lead. Then the Jags doubled the run with kills from
Kate White,
Grace Purichia and Ostrowski to extend their lead to 10-4. They kept the dominate pace defeating the Broncos in set two by a score of 25-12.
With the match tied at one set apiece, the Jags got off to a little slower of a pace in the third set but soon gained momentum with a four point run to take an 11-6 lead. Kills from
Elle Patterson and Brown as well as a service ace from Purichia helped IU Indy to take a nine-point lead at 18-9. Rider chipped away at the lead a little before the Jags closed out the third set on a six point run with kills from Brown and attack errors from the Broncos, 25-13.
The Jags wasted no time in the fourth set, taking a quick 12-5 lead. IU Indy held onto the lead until the Broncos, hoping to keep the match alive, tied the set at 19-19. Kills from Calry Doros, Brown and Purichia as well as a service ace from
Kennedy Seputis powered the Jags to a fourth set victory (25-22) to secure the match win, 3-1.
Ostrowski led the Jaguar attack with 15 kills followed by Brown with 12 and Purichia with nine. Purichia also added five service aces and 42 assists. White led the defense with 10 digs.
IU Indy is now 4-6 overall after recording a 1-2 record at the DC Showdown. The Jags return to Indianapolis to host Indiana State on Wednesday, September 18. The Sycamores will be in the Jungle for a 7:00 PM first serve.
