JAGS EARN #HLSB WIN OVER NORTHERN KENTUCKY, 6-4

Due to rain, game two was postponed until tomorrow at 11:00 AM

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team defeated Northern Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon, 6-4 in the first game of the doubleheader. Due to rain, game two was postponed. The Jags and Norse will pick up in the top of the second inning tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
 
The Jags earned the big Horizon League victory over the Norse with six runs on seven hits. IUPUI took the lead first in the bottom of the first inning. Rachael Gregory drew the leadoff walk followed by a single from Kendal Calvert to put runners on first and second. Kennedy Cowan knocked a double to left center to score Gregory, 1-0.
 
After a scoreless second inning, the Norse tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third with a stolen base. IUPUI answered quickly in the bottom of the third frame. Cowan came up big for the Jags once again, hitting her first home run of the season scoring two runs, 3-1.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, IUPUI added to their lead with an RBI double from Calvert, 4-1. The Jags added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning. Paige McPhearson stole home while Alexa Holman doubled to left center to score Cowan, 6-1.
 
Northern Kentucky tried to make a comeback in the top of the seventh inning with three runs on two hits. With a runner on second, Holman forced back-to-back flyouts to earn the win for the Jags.
 
Holman threw the complete game giving up four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Cowan led the Jags at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, homerun and three RBI. Calvert also added three hits with a run. Holman added a double.
 
In game two, the Jags were down 2-0 in the top of the second inning when the game was paused due to lightning. After a brief delay, the game was postponed until tomorrow, April 10 at 11:00 AM.
