JAGUARS TRIPPED UP AT MILWAUKEE, 87-67

Senior Bryce Monroe scores a team-high 18 points in the loss

MILWAUKEE - The IUPUI basketball team was unable to muster enough offense on the road on Sunday (Feb. 4) as the Jaguars fell to host Milwaukee, 87-67. IUPUI was held under 37 percent from the floor and 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from three-point range while the host Panthers shot 49 percent overall, including 62 percent after halftime.

Senior Bryce Monroe led three Jaguars in double-digits with 18 points and four assists and Abdou Samb added 12, all in the second half. Qwanzi Samuels closed with 10 points in the loss. Faizon Fields had 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 12 rebounds off the Milwaukee (12-11, 7-5 HL) bench.

After a nip-and-tuck first half, Milwaukee seized control early in the second half with a 13-2 run that turned a 40-36 Panther advantage into a 15-point lead. Fields and Kentrell Pullian combined on the first 10 points of the rally before Erik Pratt punctuated it with an open three. The Jaguars chipped within nine with 12:20 to play when Monroe split a pair of free throws, but Milwaukee scored the game's next four points and never relinquished its double-digit lead from there.

Milwaukee outrebounded IUPUI 43-35 and outscored the Jaguars 50-40 in the paint with a dizzying array of dunks and finishes in close. After shooting just 37.1 percent from the floor in the first half, the Panthers made 62 percent of their attempts after the break, including 5-of-7 three-point attempts.

IUPUI did much of its damage at the free throw line, hitting 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) attempts and outscoring the Panthers 21-11 at the foul line.

However, long dry spells were the Jaguars' undoing as they made just 22-of-60 shot attempts.

Samb hit 5-of-8 shots and also collected a pair of blocked shots. Both Kidtrell Blocker and John Egbuta added eight points each and Vincent Brady II closed with seven as the Jags played a second straight game without top scorer Jlynn Counter

Pratt had 16 points, including three threes, for the victors and BJ Freeman had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Langston Wilson finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting in just 13 minutes.

IUPUI will return home to host Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Feb. 10) at noon inside Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Jaguars will honor its senior class prior to the start of the game as part of Senior Day. In addition, as part of Teacher Appreciation Day, students and teachers can receive a FREE ticket at the box office on game day to support the Jaguars.
