CHICAGO – The IUPUI swim and dive team split with Chicago on Friday with the men's team defeating the Maroons while the women's team fell.
Emmaleigh Zietlow,
Nathan Rariden and
Sebastian Otero led the Jags with two wins each.
Leading the men's team to victory was freshman Rariden, as he collected two individual wins. Rariden earned first in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.64 and won the 500 free with a time of 4:36.40.
Other first-place finishes from the men's swim team came from
Youssef Magdy (1000 free – 9:34.68),
Jack Gallob (100 back – 50.40) and
Logan Kelly (100 breast – 54.93).
Emmaleigh Zietlow led the women's team with two individual wins. She took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.36 then doubled down, winning the 500 free with a time of 4:55.03.
Other top finishes from the women's team came from junior
Lillian Brandt (50 free – 24.35) and senior
Lauren Thompson (100 back – 59.78).
On the boards,
Sebastian Otero swept the men's competition with wins in both the 3-meter and 1-meter while
Alaina Heyde earned the win in the 1-meter dive. Otero took first in the 1-meter with a score of 335.03, then completed the sweep with a score of 391.65 in the 3-meter. Heyde earned first in the 1-meter with a score of 280.80.
The men's team took the win with a team score of 121 to Chicago's 117. The women's team fell by a margin of 131-106. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow when they compete in the UIC Invitational.
