TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The IUPUI volleyball team closed out their non-conference slate with a 3-1 win over instate foe, Indiana State on Friday night. The Jags totaled 59 kills compared to the Sycamores 43 to take the win in four sets.
The Jags took came out strong with a 25-17 first set victory. With the set tied at 13 all, IUPUI went on a 8-0 run lead by two kills from freshman
Grace Purichia to take a 21-13 lead.
Emily Alan closed out the first set with a kill from Purichia at 25-17.
The Sycamores stole some of the momentum in the second set, with a close 25-23 win to tie up the match at one set a piece. IUPUI quickly took back that momentum in the third set starting off on a 4-0 run. After a back-in-forth battle,
Morgan Ostrowski closed out the third set with a kill to give the Jags a 2-1 lead, 25-18.
With a tie game at 24-24 in set four ,
Emily Alan came up with a big kill to give the Jags the lead followed by a Sycamore attack error to seal the Jags' 3-1 win.
Freshman
Maia Long led the attack with 16 kills while Alan collected 11 and Ostrowski totaled 10. Purichia once again led in assists with 41 while Alan, Ostrowski and Long each collected a block.
The Jags are now 6-5 on the season and begin Horizon League play when they return to the Jungle to host Cleveland State on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:00 PM.
