SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In the second in-state matchup of the young 2023 campaign, the IUPUI (1-1-0) men's soccer team took on Notre Dame (1-0-1) for the team's first road test. The potent Irish attack caused issues for the Jags defense, who gave up five goals for just the second time in the past four seasons.
Notre Dame, coming off a draw against No. 2 Indiana in its season opener, got on the board early, tallying in the eighth minute. Junior forward Eno Nto slipped behind the defense and slotted the ball into the side netting off an assist from KK Baffour—his second of the season.
Baffour would again add his name to the score sheet, registering his third career goal and first of the year just over ten minutes later to put the Fighting Irish up two. The sophomore midfielder pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired a shot at goal that took a heavy deflection before beating
Lucas Morefield.
The Jags lone attempt on goal in the opening half came in the final minute of play with
Lukas Hackaa forcing Irish goalkeeper Bryan Down to make his first save of the evening.
Notre Dame would stretch its lead to three in the 64th minute with a Matthew Roou goal. The junior forward maintained his composure inside the 18 after receiving the ball from a flicked-on header by Wyatt Borso.
The Irish added two tallies in the final five minutes of play, both by Roou who recorded his first career hat trick, to close out the night.
IUPUI will remain on the road, traveling to Dayton to face the Flyers on Friday (Sept. 1). Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
