DAYTON, Ohio - The IUPUI men's soccer team yielded three first half goals and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-0 outcome at Dayton on Friday night (Sept. 1) at Baujan Field. The host Flyers scored twice in just more than five minutes midway through the opening half and added insurance in the 39th minute to take a commanding lead. The Flyers capped the game's scoring in the 53rd minute as the four goals came from four different sources.
Dayton (1-1-1) controlled more than 60 percent of the possession, particularly in the first half as they outshot the Jags 12-4 and kept the guests without an attempt on frame. Miles Bonham deposited the game-winner in the 19th minute and Adam Zenzen tallied in the 24th. Manny Day and Martin Bakken added insurance scores for the victors.
Logan Finnegan keyed the IUPUI attack early in the match with a couple shot attempts and
Josemir Gomez found himself chasing a goal late in the contest after the outcome was decided. Gomez finished with a team-high three shot attempts, putting two on target.
Head coach
Sid van Druenen made changes in his starting unit for the first time this season, inserting Northern Kentucky-transfer
Kyle Healy and true freshman Jose Herrera in among his starting 11.
Fifth-year senior
Lucas Morefield made seven saves in goal for the Jaguars, facing 19 shots on the day.
IUPUI will return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 5) when it treks to Eastern Illinois for a non-league tilt.
