INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team struggled to plate runs as they were swept by Purdue Fort Wayne in Saturday's doubleheader. The Jags fell in game one, 9-5 then dropped game two, 4-1. IUPUI stranded a total of 15 batters on the day.
In game one, Purdue Fort Wayne took the win 9-5. The Mastodons took the early lead with four runs in the top of the second inning on two hits and three IUPUI errors. They extended their lead to 6-0 with two runs in the third inning.
IUPUI got on the board in the fourth inning with two runs.

Kayla Freiberg scored on a throwing error by the Mastodon's short stop.
PFW added another run in the top of the fifth frame with an RBI double from Taryn Jenkins to score Brooke Licky, 7-2.
The Jags cut the lead to three with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, 7-4. Gregory singled to center field to score

Kendal Calvert scored on a throwing error by the Mastodon's catcher.
The Mastodons scored one run in the top of the sixth inning then IUPUI answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, 8-5. Speth singled down the left field line to score
Kasie Keyes. Purdue Fort Wayne scored one more run in the seventh inning then held the Jaguar offense in the bottom half of the inning for a final score of 9-5.
Carly Metcalf took the loss in game one giving up four runs in one inning of work. Calvert, Gregory, Freiberg,
Victoria Sivert and Speth recorded two hits each in the game one loss.
In game two, Purdue Fort Wayne completed the three-game sweep defeating the Jags 4-1.
The Mastodons took the lead early again with one run in the second inning. IUPUI answered in the bottom of the third inning with one run, 1-1. Freiberg reached on a fielder's choice scoring Speth.
In the fourth inning, Purdue Fort Wayne scored one run on one hit and one IUPUI error to retake the lead, 2-1. The Mastodons added two insurance runs in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double from Tori Countryman, 4-1.
Madison Bryant took the game two loss for the Jags throwing a complete game giving up four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Speth went 2-for-3 while
Kennedy Cowan, Sivert, Gregory and Calvert recorded a hit each.
The Jags are now 9-21 overall and 5-5 in conference. They travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky to face Northern Kentucky this week on Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12.
