DETROIT, Mich. – The IUPUI softball team completed the three-game sweep over Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon, 7-1.
Madison Bryant held the Titans to one run on two hits while
Victoria Sivert had a career day hitting 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
IUPUI took the lead with Sivert's two-run homer in the top of the second inning, 2-0. Sivert helped extend the Jaguars' lead with a single to center field scoring
Rachael Gregory in the top of the fourth inning, 3-0.
In the top of the fifth, IUPUI scored two runs to take the 5-0 lead.
Kayla Freiberg singled to right field to score
Kennedy Cowan, followed by a sac fly from
Jordan Jenkins to score
Jaida Speth.
Detroit Mercy scored their sole run in the sixth inning with a home run, 5-1.
IUPUI added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the lead at 7-1.
Kendal Calvert tripled to center field then scored on a fielding error by the Titans' catcher. Sivert added to her impressive day with an RBI single up the middle to score Speth.
Bryant earned her second win of the weekend throwing a complete game, giving up just one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts. Along with Sivert's three hits, Speth, Freiberg and Gregory each collected two hits.
IUPUI finishes out the regular season 16-29 overall and improves to 12-10 in conference/ The Jags currently sit in fifth in the Horizon League standings.
