BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The IUPUI softball team fell in six innings to Wisconsin on day two of the Hoosier Classic, 11-2.
Kendal Calvert and
Jordan Jenkins each recorded a triple while
Carly Metcalf took the loss on the mound.
The Badgers took the lead in the bottom of the second with a sac bunt from Peyton Bannon to score Molly Schlosser, 1-0. They added a run to their lead in the bottom of the third off an IUPUI error, 2-0.
In the top of the fourth inning the Jags split the lead with one run on two hits, 2-1. Jenkins tripled down the left field line to score
Morgan Gilbert. Wisconsin answered in the bottom half of the fourth frame with two runs on three hits and two IUPUI errors extending their lead to 4-1.
The Jags would cross the plate one more time when
Kendal Calvert tripled down the right field line to score
Kennedy Cowan cutting the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Wisconsin scored one run in the fifth inning then sealed the win with six runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, 11-2.
Five Jags recorded hits in the loss with
Kendal Calvert and Jenkins collecting triples.
Jaylin Calvert hit a double while Cowan and
Rachael Gregory also recorded hits. Metcalf took her fourth loss of the season giving up six earned runs (three unearned) on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
IUPUI closes out the Hoosier Classic against host Indiana University tomorrow, Monday with first pitch at 12:00 PM on the Big Ten Network.
