SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The IUPUI softball team fell to Notre Dame on Tuesday, 15-0. The Jags gave up nine runs in the first inning to the Fighting Irish.
Kennedy Cowan and
Kendal Calvert each recorded hits to lead off the first inning but the Fighting Irish shut down the offense to hold the Jags scoreless. In the bottom half of the inning, Notre Dame's offense scored nine runs on seven hits giving them a significant lead to start off the game.
IUPUI only earned one more hit over the next four innings while the Fighting Irish scored one run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth frame for a final score of 15-0.
Isabelle Waggner took the loss for the Jags giving up six runs on four hits in 0.2 innings of work.
Alexa Holman came in to relieve her and gave up nine runs (six earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Only three Jags recorded hits in the game with Cowan and Calvert each earning singles and
Kayla Freiberg hitting a double.
IUPUI is now 6-17 overall and 3-1 in Horizon League play with conference matchups on deck. The Jags will travel to Green Bay to for a three-game series starting on Thursday with a doubleheader and one game on Friday.
