HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Fouls proved costly as the IUPUI women's basketball team fell to Northern Kentucky on the road, 79-69.
Destiny Perkins led the Jaguar offense with 23 points.
IUPUI's leading scorer,
Jazmyn Turner fouled out early in the fourth quarter while two other starters,
Natalie Andersen and
Rachel Kent had to play with caution with four fouls each. With these fouls, Turner only played ten minutes leaving a hole inside the paint.
Northern Kentucky took the lead in the first quarter, 25-16 then extended their lead to 16 points (47-31) heading into halftime. IUPUI cut the lead to seven points at 56-49, outscoring the Norse 18-to-9 in the third quarter but it wasn't enough as NKU held on to the lead and sealed the win at 79-69.
Perkins led IUPUI with 23 points and four rebounds with three assists and one steal. Kent followed with 14 points, six rebounds and one assist while Andersen added 13 points, a team high seven rebounds and one assist. Freshman
Abby Wolterman added six points and four rebounds.
IUPUI shot 41.7 percent (25-for-60) from the floor and 30.8 percent (8-for-26) from behind the arc. The Jags made costly turnovers as IUPUI committed 14 turnovers compared to NKU's nine.
The Jaguars fall to 13-10 overall and 9-5 in the Horizon League and will return to Indy to host Purdue Fort Wayne in the Jungle on Thursday with a 7:00 PM tip.
