JACKSONVILLE, Fla – The IUPUI softball team fell to Jacksonville in walk-off fashion on Sunday, 2-1. The Jags closed out the River City Leadoff with a 1-2 record.
Jacksonville took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Madison Bryant (L, 0-2) walked Madison Bratek with the bases loaded giving Jacksonville the 1-0 lead. IUPUI knotted the game up in the fourth inning at 1-1 when
Victoria Sivert reached base safely due to a fielding error by the shortstop allowing
Kayla Freiberg to score.
After a scoreless fifth and sixth, in the bottom of the seventh Jacksonville's Bratek reached base and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Jaguar's third baseman putting her in scoring position. After a ground out, Jacksonville had two outs and the winning run on second. Madison Reynolds singled through the left side to score Bratek and walk it off, 2-1.
IUPUI recorded one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Kennedy Cowan and
Rachael Gregory recorded the two hits for the Jags.
The Jags closed out the River City Leadoff with a 1-2 record and will next travel to Clinton, S.C. for the Pinnacle PC Invitational.
