12/20/2023 9:59:00 AM

WEST PALM, Flo. – The IUPUI women's basketball team travels to West Palm, Florida to face the South Florida Bulls in the West Palm Beach Classic on Wednesday, December 20. Tipoff is set for 1:15 PM on FloHoops.

The final non-conference game in the Jungle needed extra time to determine a winner, with the IUPUI women's basketball team falling to Eastern Michigan, 84-74, Friday night (Dec. 15) after being outscored 13-3 in the overtime period. Katie Davidson again led IUPUI scorers, tallying a game-high 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting. The junior also grabbed seven boards and was credited for three assists. Stinson and Wolterman reached double-digits for the second straight game, recording 13 and 15 points, respectively.

Katie Davidson made her IUPUI debut in a loud way and continues to lead the Jags. The junior transfer from Miami (Ohio) sat out last season for personal reasons but made her presence known with career-high 32 points and seven rebounds in the season opener against Eastern Illinois. Davidson has been a consistent starter for the Jags and leads the team in scoring with 18.1 points per game, ranking her at third in the Horizon League.

Since Jazmyn Turner's injury, Abby Wolterman entered the starting five and has stepped up for the Jags. The sophomore recorded a career-high 16 points in the Jaguar's loss at Ohio and has lead the team in rebounds per game with an average of 5.2.

IUPUI has continued to fight injury to start the 2023-24 season with at least six different players sitting out at least two games for injury or other reasons. The Jags were without #HLWBB Preseason All-League First Team Selection Jazmyn Turner for seven games as she suffered an injury in the first quarter of the Ohio State game. Turner recorded a double-double in the opening game of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She made her return to the court on Friday night against Eastern Michigan when she came off the bench to total eight points and four rebounds.

Tahlia Walton, a grad transfer from Kentucky Wesleyan, senior Jaci Jones, and freshman Azyah Newson-Cole, Kaylin Moorehead and Brooklyn Stubblefield have also found themselves on the bench for at least two games.

Coach Bruce's squad is looking to hunt their way through the Horizon League standings this season as they were picked to finish ninth of 11 teams in the conference, according to the league's coaches. IUPUI finished third in the regular season standings during the 2022-23 season with a 13-7 record and entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. They were shocked in the quarterfinal round by the No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne. The Jags have fallen 0-2 in #HLWBB play to start the 2023-24 season.
