ROCHESTER, Mich. – The IUPUI volleyball team fell to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday night, 3-0. Freshman
Maia Long led the attack with 10 kills.
Addie Evans collected nine digs.
In the opening set, the Jags took a 17-11 with a kill from
Briana Brown. IUPUI then took set point at 24-21 before Oakland climbed back. The Golden Grizzlies took three straight points, forcing an IUPUI timeout.
Coming out of the timeout, Oakland tied the match at 24-24. Brown would give the Jags the advantage with a kill at 25-24 but the Jags couldn't close it out as the Golden Grizzlies took the last three points at 27-25.
After falling behind 1-0, the Jags took back-to-back points to start the second set.
Ava Harris collected a kill and service ace to give the Jags the lead. The two teams traded points with a tie set at 19-19.
Oakland took three straight points before IUPUI called a timeout. Out of the timeout the Golden Grizzlies took one more point before IUPUI got the serve back with a kill from Harris at 23-20. The Jags couldn't overcome the deficit with Oakland taking the second set, 25-21.
Down 2-0, the Jags couldn't steal a set, falling in the third and final set, 25-20. IUPUI hit just .071 percent in the final set compared to Oakland's .241.
Freshman Long totaled 10 kills while
Grace Purichia led in assists with 20. Evans collected nine digs while Harris added eight.
Brooke Phillips led at the service line with five aces.
The Jaguars return to the Jungle for the final two matches of the season. IUPUI welcomes the Northern Kentucky Norse on Friday, November 10 at 6:00 PM then hosts Wright State on Saturday, November 11 at 4:00 PM.
