HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The IUPUI volleyball team closed out their two-game road trip at Northern Kentucky on Saturday. The Jags were shut out as they fell to the Norse in three sets. Freshman
Maia Long led the Jaguars attack with 11 kills.
IUPUI opened the match with an attack error, giving the Norse the early lead. Errors proved costly for the Jags as they committed 23 errors compared to the Norse's 13. The two teams were evenly matched in the final box score in all other categories with attack errors proving the difference.
In the opening set, the Jags and Norse went back-and-forth matching kill for kill to open the set. Northern Kentucky took a good lead late in the set, 23-16 but the Jags weren't done yet.
Emily Alan recorded a kill to change the momentum followed by back-to-back attack errors from the Norse cutting the lead to, 23-19, forcing a NKU timeout.
Ava Harris gave the Jags one more point before the Norse sealed the first set win, 25-20.
IUPUI recorded just a .053 hitting percentage in the second set with three blocks, falling to the Norse 25-19. Down two sets to none, the Jags fought late in the third set with kills by Alan and Harris along with a service ace from Long. It wasn't enough as the Norse took the third set, 25-23, sealing the match three sets to none.
Long led the Jags in kills with 11 while Harris added nine and Morgan Ostrowksi collected eight.
Grace Purichia led in assists with 27 and digs with 14.
Addie Evans added 11 digs for the Jags.
IUPUI is now 8-12 overall and holds a 2-7 Horizon League record. They will return to the Jungle next weekend for back-to-back #HLVB matches against Green Bay (Friday, October 20) and Milwaukee (Saturday, October 21).
