JAGUARS PLAY BELMONT TO SCORELESS DRAW

IUPUI (2-0-3) collects a third straight shutout in non-conference play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The IUPUI women's soccer team played Belmont to a scoreless draw as the Jaguars' defense earned a fourth shutout in the season's first five games on Friday night (Sept. 2). It marked a third straight clean sheet for the Jaguars as IUPUI remained undefeated on the season.

In what's become a recurring theme for head coach Chris Johnson's squad, the Jaguars earned a slight shot advantage and kept the opposition at bay for the bulk of the night in the shutout effort. However, the offense was unable to get on track against the Bruins as just four of the Jaguars' 11 shots were on frame, paced by two attempts each from Emma Frey and Emma Antoine. Belmont's Sarah Doyle also delivered a shutout, making three stops on her home field.

For IUPUI (2-0-3), Ashton Kudlo and Cailynn Junk shared the shutout for the second time in as many games. Kudlo made two saves in a scoreless 75 minutes of action before yielding the spot to Junk for the final 15 minutes.

IUPUI got quality attempts in the game's early going from Kailyn Smith and Makenna Collins, the first of which was cleared off the back line by a Belmont defender. Later Cassie Rodriguez had a brilliant header on frame off a Leah Shumate corner, but Doyle was able to snare the attempt. Junior Emma Antoine had a left-footed attempt fly just over the bar in the closing minutes of the first half.

Frey had a pair of headers in a matter of seconds in the 53rd minute that nearly broke the stalemate. The initial attempt hit off the crossbar and came back to her and the second attempt went just wide of the post.

Kudlo made her most impressive stop of the night in the 74th minute when she stopped an Eliza Paisley attempt from well beyond the six-yard box before her defensive teammates then turned away two more attempts as Kudlo struggled to regain her footing. Kudlo was then forced to the sidelines in favor of Junk.

Senior Maya Turner continued to keep things clean in the back and was the lone IUPUI player to play all 90 minutes on a warm evening.

IUPUI will return to action on Monday (Sept. 5) when the Jaguars take on Southern Indiana at 1:00 p.m. Central (2 Eastern) in Evansville.
