INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI volleyball team handed Milwaukee their first Horizon League loss in four sets on Tuesday night, 3-1. Junior
Brooke Phillips collected a season-high five service aces in the win.
"I'm so proud of this group of young women," said head coach Lindsey Froehlich. "We executed the game plan and didn't get caught up in our mistakes. We talked about playing brave and needing everyone on the team to perform their roles to the best of their abilities and they did that."
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle with the Jaguars coming out on top, 28-26. IUPUI outhit the Panthers in hitting percentage in set one, .179 to .108.
In set two, the Jags came out strong winning the first three points and then went on a nine-point run later in the set to secure a 25-13 set win. IUPUI once again outhit Milwaukee with a .320 percentage compared to the Panthers .083.
Milwaukee took set three to keep the match going, 25-21 but the Jags closed it out in set four, 25-22. IUPUI finished the match with a hitting percentage of .216, totaling 48 kills compared to Milwaukee's .200 with 50 kills.
Sophomore
Briana Brown led the attack with 17 kills hitting .220 while
Allie Pogue followed with 11 kills hitting .250.
Darragh Dixon totaled 22 assists while
Sidney Veatch added 20 assists.
Emma Ashcraft led the Jaguar defense with 14 digs. Phillips added five aces and Dixon added four.
IUPUI improves to 1-2 in the Horizon League and 7-8 overall. They will next face Youngstown State on the road on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 PM.
