PEORIA, Ill. – The IUPUI volleyball team closed out the CEFCU Classic with two games on Saturday. The Jags fell to Western Michigan in straight sets, 3-0, then defeated host team Bradley in a five-set thriller, 3-2.
In match one the Jags faced Western Michigan (8-4) and fell in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-14. Senior
Allie Pogue led the attack with 11 kills, hitting .214 percentage.
Addie Evans and
Brooke Phillips each collected 13 digs while
Darragh Dixon earned 16 assists followed by
Sidney Veatch with 12.
Western Michigan out hit the Jags with a .252 percentage compared to IUPUI's .072.
The Jags defeated Bradley (4-8) in a five-set back-and-forth battle, 3-2. Although IUPUI outhit the Braves in set one .375 to .333, Bradley barely outscored IUPUI, 28-26. The Jags evened things up at one set a piece with a second set victory, 25-23.
The Braves retook the lead after a third set win, outhitting the Jags .189 to .098 but IUPUI regrouped and took the fourth (25-20) and fifth sets (15-12) to seal the five-set victory.
Pogue led the Jags in hitting percentage hitting .308 with 16 kills while sophomore
Briana Brown followed closely hitting .246 with a team-high 21 points.
Emily Alan totaled 13 kills.
Evans once again led the defense with 20 digs followed by Phillips with 14 and Dixon and
Emma Ashcraft with 11 each. Dixon earned 29 assists while Veatch collected 27.
Pogue was named to the All-Tournament team and the Jags finished the CEFCU Classic 2-1 to improve to 6-6 on the season. IUPUI will return to Indy for the Horizon League opener at home on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:00 PM.
