IUPUI VOLLEYBALL LEAVES COLONEL CLASSIC WITH STRAIGHT SET VICTORY

The Jags defeated Radford, 3-0 to finish out the Colonel Classic

RICHMOND, Ky. – After a slow start in the Colonel Classic, the IUPUI volleyball team closed out the weekend with a straight set victory over Radford, 3-0. Briana Brown led the attack with 10 kills and Sidney Veatch recorded 26 assists with five service aces. Addie Evans collected 21 digs.

"I'm so proud of how we showed up this morning after a tough day yesterday!" said head coach Lindsey Froehlich. "We wanted to be more competitive and play with intention especially at the end of sets."

The Jags took the lead early with a first set victory, 25-13, and didn't let up winning the second set, 25-20, and the third set 25-19. Brown led the Jags in set one with four kills followed by Emily Alan with three. Evans recorded five digs in the first set while Maddie Ohm collected four. Emma Ashcraft, Evans and Veatch each recorded a service ace in set one.

The second set proved more of a challenge for the Jags as Radford brought it within five at 25-20. On the attack, Brown recorded five kills and Allie Pogue and Alan each recorded two. Veatch's serve proved too much for Radford as she collected three aces in set two alone. Evans kept up the defense with eight digs.

Set three also went to the Jags 25-19. The Jags outhit Radford 12-10 in the third set and did not commit a service error. Freshman Morgan Ostrowski, Millai Madison and Pogue each had three kills.

"We executed well behind the service line and limited more of our errors," said Froehlich. "We're looking forward to continuing to grow as a team and play on our home court next weekend!"

IUPUI finished the match with 33 kills, eight aces, 45 digs and seven blocks. Alan finished the match with a .429 hitting percentage without committing an error with Evans was named to the All-Tournament Team after her consistent passing and defense.

"Addie stepped up for us this weekend with both her passing and discipline on defense. She was a big factor in keeping us in some of the long rallies."

The Jaguars return home next weekend for their home opener in the Hampton Inn Invitational. IUPUI's first game will start at 7:00 PM on Friday (Sept. 2) in the Jungle.
