JAGUARS FALL IN PRESEASON FINALE AT DAYTON ON SATURDAY

Jaguars to open the regular season against Marian on Thursday night (Aug. 25)

DAYTON, Ohio - The IUPUI men's soccer team dropped its preseason finale to a talented Dayton club on Saturday night (Aug. 20), closing the preseason with a 1-1 mark. IUPUI yielded five first half scores to the host Flyers in ultimately falling on the road, 7-0.

Dayton outshot the Jaguars by a 16-8 margin and 9-1 advantage in the second half.

Dayton wasted little time going in front as Joseph Melto Quiah scored off a Jaden Jones-Riley assist in the 16th minute and then benefited from an own goal in the 20th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Basit Umar netted a score in the 31st minute and Michael Adedokun scored in the 38th. Forster Ajago tallied just before halftime to make it 5-0.

Logan Finnegan just missed on a pair of first half attempts, twice being denied by the woodwork, pinging the crossbar in the 11th and 38th minutes. Junior midfielder Lukas Hackaa had a pair of shot attempts from his midfield spot, including putting one on frame early in the second half. Freshman Gavin O'Shea, who tallied a brilliant score in the preseason opener, came off the bench to put a shot on frame as well.

Junior goalkeeper Lucas Morefield made one save in the opening half while Bryson Najarian collected three second half stops.

Head coach Sid van Druenen played 22 different players in the preseason finale with no player receiving more than Kade Tepe's 75 minutes. Medard Mikobi and Chris Workman both played 68 minutes in the midfield and Finnegan played 67.

IUPUI will open the regular season on Thursday (Aug. 25) against Marian University at 4:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. That contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw describes the action. In addition, admission to Thursday's men's and women's soccer doubleheader is free of charge.
