CHICAGO, Ill. – The UIC Flames tennis team bested the IUPUI women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon, 7-0. The Lady Jags are now 2-15 overall and 0-2 in Horizon League contests.
The Flames took the lead with the doubles point after IUPUI had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match due to injuries and UIC defeated
Samantha Hayward and
Meghan Bernard in the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-1.
UIC swept singles play to seal the 7-0 victory over the Jags. IUPUI forfeited the No. 6 match and
Christina Stankovic was down, 6-0, 4-0 before retiring her match in the No. 1 singles spot to give the Flames a quick 3-0 lead. Bernard lost the No. 2 match (6-3, 6-2) and
Sarah Lounsbury lost the No. 3 singles match (6-0, 6-0). Hayward lost a hard-fought battle at the No. 4 singles spot (6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-1), 10-7) and
Marta Krakowski fell at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-1).
IUPUI will next be in action when they return home on Saturday, April 9 to host Cleveland State at 1:00 PM.
