INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's tennis team hosted North Dakota at West Indy on Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Hawks defeated the Jags in a hard-fought battle, 4-3.
The Jaguars started out on top earning the doubles point.
Kamil Kozerski and
Sean Bailey sealed the first doubles win with a quick 6-1 win. The partnership of
Alex Jochim and Nick Moody fell 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles spot, but
Colton Morehart and
Blessing Benibo pulled out a close 6-4 win to earn the doubles point and put the Jags on the board.
In singles play, the Fighting Hawks bested the Jags 4-2 to seal the victory. At No. 1 singles, Jochim defeated North Dakota's Gerhard Sullwald in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. Freshman
Kamil Kozerski earned the No. 2 singles win with a three-set victory over Edmond Aynedjian, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8.
Morehart fell in two sets at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-4) and Benibo lost in the No. 4 spot (6-3, 6-4). In the No. 5 spot,
Nate Day was defeated (6-4, 6-2) and
Canaan Sellers fell at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-4).
IUPUI is now 6-13 and will continue Horizon League play this weekend when they host Cleveland State on Saturday (April 2) at 2:30 PM and Youngstown State on Sunday (April 3) at 2:30 PM.
